Built on Hard Work: The Story of Diamond Masonry

Built on Hard Work: The Story of Diamond Masonry

For Diamond Masonry, success has never been about chasing the next job. It has been about doing good work, keeping your word, and building relationships that last.

Founded in 1988 after its owner moved to Arizona from Virginia, Diamond Masonry began as a small residential company replacing wood fences with masonry walls for homeowners. As its reputation for quality and reliability grew, so did the business. Within just a few years, commercial and land development work had expanded enough for the company to transition fully away from residential projects.

That growth was built on values established long before Diamond Masonry opened its doors.

Construction was part of life from an early age. Growing up in a family involved in the lumber industry meant teenage years spent working in the sawmill, grading cedar fencing, performing manual labor, and eventually learning bookkeeping in the office. Those experiences created an early appreciation for hard work, accountability, and the importance of understanding every part of a business.

Before entering masonry, a career with Nordstrom brought a very different kind of education. After graduating from Oregon State University, Diamond Masonry's founder worked in London at a foreign buying office and later helped open Nordstrom's first East Coast stores as a buyer. Lessons in customer service, teamwork, and personal ownership would ultimately become central to the culture of Diamond Masonry.

Today, the company specializes in land development masonry projects throughout Arizona, but the greatest source of pride is not any one wall or project.

It's the people behind them.

The company calls itself Team Diamond, a reflection of the belief that success comes from people taking ownership of their work and supporting one another. Diamond Masonry has never relied on a traditional sales force. Instead, nearly all of its growth has come through repeat customers, referrals, and relationships earned over decades.

That same hands-on mentality has remained part of the company's leadership style. In the early years, working in the office could easily be followed by heading to a jobsite to help with cleanup because every dollar mattered. The philosophy remains simple: leaders should be willing to do the same work they ask of others.

For Diamond Masonry, masonry itself represents many of those same values. It is durable, dependable, and built to serve communities for generations. But the future of the industry depends just as much on the people doing the work.

The advice for the next generation is equally straightforward: work hard, stay humble, continue learning, and protect your reputation.

For women entering the construction industry, the message is to stand strong, trust your abilities, learn your craft, and let the quality of your work speak for itself.

After nearly four decades, Diamond Masonry's story remains grounded in the same principles that helped launch the company in 1988: quality work, strong relationships, accountability, and a team that takes pride in what it builds.

That's what Team Diamond is all about.
